The duty of the experts in Public Relations is to develop communication strategies and processes that influence the course of conflicts for the benefit of the organization and the people who constitute it. Some organizations are able to detect a problem in time to resolve, however, not all situations represent an ideal solution by different factors.

One of the cases discussed in the workshop was that of swimmer Michael Phelps. After winning eight gold medals in the gamesBeijing Olympics 2008 I was issued a photograph where he clearly is breathing a marijuana pipe in the middle of a college party.





For one thing, it would have been a bad move to deny the matter. The picture does not lie and say there is no way that this incident did not happen. Nor could he blame others (who were at the party) because no one was forced to inhale. Neither could say something like, "Well, there's something about it but not what they are thinking." The only thing left to do (and in fact did) was to accept that he had made a mistake. Being a public figure, admired by children and adults worldwide, doubted his capacity as atleta.

He was given a penalty of three months' suspension powers and some sponsors withdrew their support. Also, his image was badly damaged ... and more after another scandal:


"After smoking marijuana picture of a pipe, the eight-time gold medalist in Beijing is now engaged in another pose: in a club striptease in Las Vegas, warmly rubbing a dancer.

Some sources suggest that the swimmer came to the club to hold that only punishable by three months for the picture to smoke. "

Although it is a sensational source, the image always has to guard against all kinds of scandals, ie should notcontinue giving the media to publish stories that damage the reputation.
Often, the conflict will not be completely resolved by the fact that they ask for forgiveness. Not because it is the best option means that things will be as before.

Public relations are more complex than they seem.
